A Webflow alternative for agencies: build in your own code

By SnabbSajt · Updated 14 August 2026

An agency searching for a Webflow alternative is rarely looking for more design tooling. It is looking for a safe editing surface for the client, without moving the whole team into someone else's canvas first. This guide covers the structural difference, what you need to try it, and when Webflow honestly remains the right call.

What agencies are actually looking for

The question behind the search is almost always the same: the client wants to change their own copy, and we do not want them able to wreck the design. A visual builder answers only half of that, at the price of the site also having to be built there. That trade is the thing worth examining – not the feature list.

The structural difference: your code goes in

In a visual builder the canvas is where the site comes into being. Your team works in the tool's model, and if you leave the tool the site goes with it. SnabbSajt inverts that: the site is built in your own Next.js repo with your components and your CI, converted into a validated content package and sent in with `snabbsajt push`. The code is yours the whole time – we hold the content and the editor.

It holds in both directions. We never run imported React, PHP, plugins or arbitrary CSS; everything external is converted into a typed, validated structure, and the conversion reports what was lost or replaced. That is also precisely why the client's editor can be locked without feeling broken.

The client-facing experience is in Swedish

Your client is not a designer and does not read English interfaces for fun. The whole editing experience is in Swedish, in plain language, built to work on a phone – and made to be understood by someone who has never heard the word "breakpoint". That is the difference between the client actually changing their copy and emailing you instead.

What you need to try it

The toolchain is an npm package: `npm install @snabbsajt/cli`. From there you link a project, import existing HTML or a WordPress site, validate the package and run `push`. Read and write credentials are separated – `pull` uses a delivery token that physically cannot write, and `push` needs its own capability-scoped token.

You can also connect Claude to a site through our MCP server, both for yourself during the build and for the client afterwards. The agent works on the draft, stays inside the same surfaces the user has, and never publishes unless a human says so.

When Webflow is still the right call

If design freedom is the product itself – a portfolio, a campaign site where every section is unique, a build where a designer must be able to move anything without a developer – a free canvas is the right tool and our ceiling is the wrong one. The same applies if your team does not write code: our whole model assumes somebody at your end builds in a repo.

What does not exist yet

Two things are worth knowing before you plan around them. White-label – your own agency's branding inside the client's editor – is planned for January 2027 and does not exist today. Wholesale per-site billing, where you hold the subscription and invoice the client yourself, is not built and the price is not decided. You can run an agency-paid model on the existing plans today, but the per-site billing mechanics come later.

Summary

  • The question is where the site is built, not which tool has the most features.
  • Your code stays in your repo. Only the content is pushed in.
  • The client's editor is in Swedish and built for a phone.
  • If design freedom is the product itself, a free canvas is still right.
  • White-label and wholesale billing do not exist yet – do not plan around them.
