Switching website builders – how to do it safely

Switching website builders feels big – but the steps are few if you take them in the right order. This guide is for anyone with a site on Wix, Squarespace, one.com, Loopia, WordPress or similar who wants to move on without losing email, domain or Google URLs.
Build the new site before you cancel anything
The most expensive mistake is cancelling the old subscription first. Then you risk email, DNS and an empty web address while the new site is still missing. Do the opposite: build and publish the new site, test it, repoint the domain – and cancel last.
Separate website, domain and email
With many Swedish providers everything lives in one package. You do not have to switch everything. Often it is enough to move the website and leave domain or mail where they are until you are ready. Check where email actually lives before deleting anything.
Preserve important addresses with redirects
If a page changes address (for example /contact → /get-in-touch) the old address should redirect. That protects bookmarks and helps Google understand the move. No one can promise unchanged rankings – but redirects and the same domain are the most important things you can do.
Pick the tool for the job – not out of habit
If you mainly need a clear services site with contact and maybe booking, pick something that gets you there quickly. If design freedom is the product itself (portfolio, premium feel) a freer builder can still be right. Compare honestly – and try a draft before you decide.
